The Friends of the DeKalb Public Library will be holding a huge sale of books, CDs, and DVDs from Friday, April 21st through Sunday, April 23rd in the Yusunas Meeting Room on the lower level of the library, located at 309 Oak Street. Hours will be 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday, and 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. Sunday.
The vast majority of the nearly 5,000 items have been donated by library patrons and community members, and are in very good to nearly-new condition. For ease of shopping, the books have been sorted into various categories, such as: hard cover fiction; trade fiction; sci-fi and fantasy; history; biography and memoir; art; cooking; large print; crafts; children’s; and more.
Prices range from 25 cents for children’s books and mass market paperbacks, to $1.00 for trade and large paperbacks, and $1.50 for all hard cover books. Audio books and music CDs are $1.00 each, and DVDs are only $2.50. There will also be one table of specially-priced books. Sunday will be the all-day $5/bag sale for books, with bags provided at the sale; DVDs and CDs will be half-price.
Since its inception in 2002, the Friends have raised and donated over $50,000 in supplemental funds for the library, supporting such programs as The Big Read, Book Babies, and the Adult and Children’s Summer Reading Programs. They also contributed substantially to the recent library expansion. Though not required, individuals will also be able to join the Friends’ organization during the sale, thus further supporting the library.
