The League of Women Voters of DeKalb County will host a moderated town hall forum for all County Board candidates on Thursday, March 8th beginning at 7:30 p.m. The forum will be focused on land and energy issues in DeKalb County, such as farmland, land use, wind farms, solar farms, and other related topics.
The event will take place in the DeKalb Area Women’s Center, 1021 State Street, not far from the intersection of the east-west Route 38 and the north-south Peace Road in DeKalb. A wheelchair accessible entrance is available via the alley behind the building. Free parking will be available, one-half block away on 11th Street. Audience members may submit questions at the door. The doors will open at 7:00 p.m.
This event will be focused on letting voters express what they see are the most important county land and energy issues, therefore the emphasis will be on the questions from the audience. Candidates will answer questions submitted by the audience, and will be given the opportunity to provide two minutes for an opening introductory statement and one minute for a closing statement.
All are welcome to attend. Those wishing to submit questions for candidates can increase their chances of their questions being chosen by keeping the questions short enough to fit on a 3 x 5 card and writing legibly. Audience members should also write questions that all candidates can answer, not questions directed only at one candidate personally. The League will provide other tips on how to write good questions for candidates at the door. Citizens can also submit questions earlier via e-mail by midnight on March 7 to: leagueofdekalbcounty@gmail.com.
