Join the Prairie State Rebels at Amber Sun Acres this weekend for a Cowboy mounted shooting event! Cowboy mounted shooting is a competitive equestrian sport involving the riding of a horse to negotiate a shooting pattern. Its basis among organizations like the Prairie State Rebels (PSR) is to provide modern day honor of historic shooting events held at Wild West Shows in the late 19th century. Modern events use blank ammunition certified to break a target balloon within twenty feet instead of live rounds.
Come enjoy fun in the sun watching a sanctioned CMSA Cowboy Mounted Shooting Competition. Contestants on horseback run different patterns while shooting balloons with theatrical blanks. This is a family friendly, free, fun event with a lunch vendor on site. Sit in the bleachers, or bring a lawn chair and enjoy watching the cowboys and cowgirls compete in this timed event. The event is weather permitting.
Prairie State Rebels was created to promote the sport of Cowboy Mounted Shooting. PSR has made its home at Amber Sun Acres located in Malta Illinois. The organization is committed to keeping the history of western mounted shooting alive by igniting interest in this unique sport. The club is growing and they are always open to welcoming new members to this fun, laid back, family organization.
This weekend’s Shooting event starts at 12:00 pm and runs until 4:00 pm on Saturday, July 22nd and 11:00 am – 3:00 pm on Sunday, July 23rd. Amber Sun Acres is located at 19819 University Road in Malta. Join them for their event this weekend! All shooting events are open to the public.
