Nina Fontana, candidate for Board of Education, District 428
Background: I have lived in DeKalb for 23 years, and have been involved in education here for most of those years; as a parent of three children who graduated from DHS, as a student (MsEd) at NIU, and as a teacher at Huntley Middle School for 16 years. I have been married to the same man (Mario) for almost 40 years. I babysit for my granddaughter once a week, and occasionally for my grandsons, the oldest of whom will be starting kindergarten in DeKalb next fall.
Why should people vote for you?
As my background indicates, education has been a large part of my life. While teaching, I served on many committees in the district to help select textbooks, read student writing, guide the gifted program, work on curriculum as a whole, and help direct Huntley’s Language Arts department. I feel the School Board would benefit from my experiences on the front line of education. I listen well to all sides of an issue, and would hopefully use this quality to make good decisions for our educational community.
