Middlewest Fest is Northern Illinois’ celebration of the live music and arts, taking place throughout the weekend of Sept. 10th and 11th in downtown DeKalb. Middlewest is not a genre-specific festival. Variety is the spice of life, is it not? Well, that variety is the is the central ingredient to the feast of the senses that shall be Middlewest! You may find a singer-songwriter plucking away at his acoustic guitar in a tiny corner bistro, a boisterous heavy metal band playing a rock club down the street while the art gallery next door hosts an independent film viewing. Middlewest is the convergence of the local music and art communities and a celebration of the vibrant culture of the Northern, IL area!
Middlewest events are hosted at The Egyptian Theatre, Ottos Nightclub, The House Cafe, O’Leary’s Irish Pub, Tapalaluna, Upper Deck Sports Bar & SMLTWN Skate Shop as well as various art spaces, halls and local business in downtown DeKalb.
The inaugural ‘Against The Wall’ independent film festival will take place at 2pm on Saturday at Debutantes School of Cosmetology and will feature midwestern and NIU student film makers, screening comedy, drama, experimental and documentary mini-features. Best of all, it is free!
The Middlewest Bazaar and Art Market will be located in Palmer Court on Saturday featuring Arts & Craft Vendors, Dunk Tank, Pie-Eating Contests & other DeKalb Oddities. There also will be free music in the Van Buer Plaza at 2nd and Locust St. on Saturday from 2pm to 6pm.
Middlewest MegaTickets / Day Passes are available online for $30 for both days or $20 for one day. They can be picked up Friday, Sept. 10th, at The House Cafe Box Office from 4pm – 11pm and Saturday, Sept. 11th, at The Egyptian Theatre Box Office from 11am – 11pm. All Megaticket holders will be allowed entry into each event 30 minutes prior to the doors opening to the general public. Single show tickets are available at the venue hosting the event. Patrons of all ages are welcomed at every participating Middlewest venue with the exception of Ottos Nightclub, which has a 21+ age restriction.
