The downtown DeKalb area is known for its eccentric mixture of business types. From breweries to music and clothing stores and more, there is surely something for everyone. This has been generally true, apart from those that have a taste for wine and charcuterie. Restaurateur and Army Veteran Thomas Sherman saw the need for a casual atmosphere where trying new varieties of wine was accessible and fun. He opened Class VI in May of 2023 as his contribution to this problem.
The goal of the creation of Class VI is simple: to bridge a gap between DeKalb visitors and locals that should be diversifying their taste in wine. Exotic wines, local (but perhaps unheard of) wines, and rare finds that are all available right here on DeKalb’s downtown strip. The ideology, combined with added delicatessen, cheeses, and strategically paired Hors d’oeuvres makes for the perfect gathering place in NIU’s backyard. Friends and families can gather in a laid-back atmosphere and see what all the hype is about.
Wine enthusiasts can rejoice at the ever-changing spirits list and either try a beverage they have always wanted to try, or sip on classics that they don’t want to purchase a whole bottle for. Novice tasters who might otherwise be intimated by an unfamiliar activity can feel at ease with Class VI’s welcoming family-charm. Be sure to add Class VI to your “Must Do” list in DeKalb! Stop by 214 E Lincoln Hwy in DeKalb and let them know what you think.
