DeKalb: Veterans Day for the year 2022 is celebrated and observed on Friday, November 11th. Veterans Day is a United States federal holiday that honors all military veterans who have served in the U.S. military and is observed annually on November 11.
The Day coincides with Remembrance Day and Armistice Day which marks the anniversary of the end of World War I (ended November 11th). Many communities host ceremonies on the 11th month, 11th day, 11th hour, and 11th minute to honor all those who died in World War I and future conflicts.
DeKalb’s Veteran’s Day ceremony will be held at the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Clock, located at 1st Street and Lincoln Highway in DeKalb. This WW1 Veteran’s Tribute Clock in Dekalb, Illinois, honors those WWI veterans who served their country and lost their lives.
The Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Clock celebrated its centennial year in 2021. The clock was repaired and repainted in 2021 through a generous donation from the DeKalb Rotary Club.
The DeKalb Veteran’s Day ceremony is hosted by the DeKalb American Legion Post 66. The ceremony includes a welcome and honor to all veterans (current and deceased), the singing of the Star Spangled Banner by Terri Crain Goodman, a brief Veteran’s Day speech by local Veteran Michael Embrey (USAF), laying of the honorary wreath by Legion Commander Manuel Olalde (USMC), veteran’s prayer by Legion Chaplin Michael Giuliano (USAF), formal military ceremony by the DeKalb American Legion Honor Guard and the playing of Taps to honor all veterans.
