As of February 1st, 2017 per Chapter 24 of the Municipal Code, DeKalb will require a permit be pulled, either by the homeowner or roofing contractor, for all roofing work to be performed within the City of DeKalb. Roofing contractors must provide a copy of their State of Illinois Roofing license at the time of permit submittal. Permit fees for residential roofing permits will be $25. Commercial roofing permit fees will be charged per the Commercial, Industrial Minor/Miscellaneous Fee Schedule D, Chapter 24 of the City of DeKalb Municipal Code. That’s easy….no one do it! And what happens if you do the work yourself?
Getting more expensive to live in the city as cost will be passed on to the ones paying the bill. With not much building in many years the departments and inspectors need work to justify being there I guess and the city needs revenues too. Food for thought.

And this is why no one wants to do work in the City of DeKalb.. way to many hoops to jump through.. need an electrician.. good luck.. sewer backed up? Ha!! Not gonna happen here.. ugh…

You just keep pushing people away. Contractors and investors alike are going to keep avoiding doing work in the city of Dekalb. The city is going to continue declining if rehabbers and homeonwers don’t want to fix up their property because they know they will have to deal with the city. The city needs to get off their high horse. You think you are the next Geneva or St Charles, but reality is you’re the next Rockford!
