The DeKalb County Keep Encouraging Youth to Succeed (KEYS) Initiative is pleased to present its firstever “Who’s Got Talent” community youth talent show. The talent show will be a chance for any and all DeKalb County youth (ages 7 to 18) to show off their skills in front of a live audience. There are many talented young people living in our community and we want to spotlight and celebrate their talents!
The talent show will be at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at NIU’s O’Connell Theater. Tickets will be $7 each. There will be three classes of competition, ages 7 to 10, 11 to 14, and 15 to 18. Cash prizes will be awarded to first and second places in each age category.
Auditions are this Friday, May 13th, at the Clinton Rosette Middle School in DeKalb from 6 to 8pm. There is a $20 audition fee per act.
Individuals can perform individually or with a group. Talent can be any type of amateur entertainment (dancing, singing, musical, comedy, etc.) deemed appropriate for a family friendly environment. Acts should be kept to a four minute maximum. Contestants need to bring a copy of any musical accompaniment to the audition.
All contestants and their parents must sign and submit an application form. Application forms will be available at the auditions or get them in advance at www.dekalbcountykeys.org. Details about the talent show, rules and regulations are also available at the website.
The show is being organized by a team of youth from the Kishwaukee College Right to Succeed Program. All profits from the show will be used by KEYS for ongoing program development. DeKalb County KEYS is committed to the principle that all young people need the support and care of the entire community to become thriving and successful adults. KEYS uses the framework of the 40 developmental assets to guide their efforts. They want to help individuals, businesses and other organizations understand the key assets that youth need to become successful adults and to challenge each person in the community to become an asset builder in their sphere of influence.
