The NIU Community School of the Arts has announced the schedule for winter and holiday recitals.
Soloists and ensemble performances are featured in December on the stages of the Recital Hall and Concert Hall of the NIU Music Building.
Most performances end with a reception. All are free and open to the public.
Saturday, Dec. 6
- The Showcase Recitals are at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the Recital Hall. Children and adults who take private lessons on a variety of instruments will be performing with an accompanist.
- Student recitals continue as Georgia Price’s piano students perform at 3 p.m. and the guitar students of Eric Schroeder play at 5 p.m.
- The CSA Steelband, directed by Yuko Asada, and the NIUkulele Ensemble, directed by Eric Schroeder, perform at 7 p.m. in the Recital Hall.
Sunday, Dec. 7
- The CSA Children’s Choir performs at the NIU Holiday Concert at 3 p.m. in the Concert Hall.
- The harp and piano students of Jaina Kreuger perform at 1 p.m. and the Suzuki cello students of Tom Cappaert perform at 3 p.m. in the Recital Hall.
Monday, Dec. 8
- The Suzuki piano students of Marilyn Montzka perform at 5 p.m. in the Recital Hall.
Tuesday, Dec. 9
- CSA Symphonette performs at 6 p.m. in the Concert Hall. This string ensemble for young players is directed by Linc Smelser.
Wednesday, Dec. 10
- CSA Guitar Ensemble performs in the Music Building Room 241 at 8 p.m. This group is directed by Quentin Dover.
- The CSA Children’s Choir performs at 7 p.m. in the Recital Hall. Directed by Mary Lynn Doherty, the choir performs a variety of songs for the holiday season.
Saturday, Dec. 13
- Smelser’s cello students perform at 10:30 a.m., followed by the Suzuki violin students of Ann Montzka-Smelser, Laurie Rodriguez and Kara Eubanks at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall.
