This Friday August 21st at 6:00pm the Grassroots Juicery and Cafe in Sycamore will host performance group Wooden Box Theater, as they present a live event that will join local theatrical performers, area fashion models, local vendors, and live music with night one of the groups 2 part mini-series of Fall events, ‘Amplified Soul’ on Thursday August 27th. The first event, ‘Amplified,’ will take place at the Grassroots Juicery and Cafe, while the second, ‘My Soul 2 Your Soul,’ will be held Thursday August 27th at Green Tangerine Records in Cortland. Both events were written and directed by Daniel Sherrill and Jessica Keller.
‘Amplified,’ will be hosted, on stage, by Wooden Box Theater members Dan Sherrill, Kane County fashion model Kayla DeVries, and debuting team member, Alexia Pizano, who will also act as the event supervisor. The show will also feature special guest appearances by local vendors Emily Gage of the Nordic Artisan Company, and Cindy Diaz of Cindy Diaz Photography, as well as a live interview with Patty Ruback who manages the Facebook group ‘Eat Local DeKalb.’ The guest of honor will be Jenny Jeep Johnson, of DeKalb. Another newcomer to the group, Karly Kelley of Plainfield, will act as the event time-keeper, and in charge of behind the scenes decision making during the night.
Wooden Box Theater will also debut a new assistant live event director, Jessica Keller of Sycamore, who event writer, Dan Sherrill brought aboard after reaching out to Keller when putting together the ‘Amplified Soul’ event series. “She’s got the right amount of charisma and determination to see her foray into live theater turn into a success, I have faith she’ll enjoy her time helping to create our events and watch them unfold,” Sherrill explains.
Live music will be provided by Charlie Haley, Doug Feltz, Jay Rivi, Daerielle Amber Culver, Mia Galindo, Michael Tolomei, and Dan Hayes. Organizer Dan Sherrill explains, “Bringing musicians together for a live theatrical event like ours is always rewarding, it’s always a good alternative to them just playing concerts, when they appear in our events they get theatrical experience and it becomes something they can look forward to without the confines of a concert format.”
The event will also showcase Rebecca Valentine in her belly-dance persona, ‘Zephirine Moon Garden,’ for an artistic dance segment. She has been performing on occasion with Wooden Box Theater since late 2011, as well as with the Prairie Smoke Belly Dance group in area venues.
With no shortage of talent and staged segments, ‘Amplified,’ is sure to captivate the audience and showcase local talent from many different genres and backgrounds on the groups way to part 2 of ‘Amplified Soul,’ which will take place the following Thursday August 27th at Green Tangerine Records in Cortland.
Wooden Box Theater starring in ‘Amplified’ will be held this Friday August 21st at 6:00pm inside the Grassroots Juicery and Cafe located at 2180 Oakland Dr Unit B in Sycamore, with additional parking behind the venue. Admission is $5.00 at the door with a ‘semi-formal’ dress code. Grassroots Juicery & Cafe is located at 2180 Oakland Dr. Suite B in Sycamore (just past Ollie’s).
