State Wide:
~ 70th District: Jeff Keicher (R) and Paul Stoddard (D)
Jeff Keicher (R) is a local DeKalb County businessman and the incumbent having been elected in 2018. Once in office Keicher voted for several fees increased after saying he would oppose any new taxes or fees. “After seeing how bad the state economy was, there was no choice but to support some fee increases,” commented Keicher in a phone interview. “But also in not supporting these fee increases as Madigan’s proposals would have meant a lack of support from Democrats on needed projects (Farrara Cand and Facebook) and funding (ie: NIU) in the DeKalb County area.” Keicher is a strong supporter of term-limits and controlling the leadership of Madigan. Keicher is very supportive of new business growth in DeKalb County.
Paul Stoddard (D) is a retired geology professor from Northern Illinois University and an active member of the DeKalb County Board. “Some candidates did not get the funding they had in the past from organizations and unions making it hard to compete,” commented Stoddard in a phone interview. “COVID-19 and lack of funding made it hard to gain additional name reconnection during this election process. No debates or limited walking the streets to meet voters also made it difficult to be heard and known.” Stoddard does not support term limits except in leadership positions. Stoddard would be a strong supporter of NIU funding. He ran against Keicher in 2018 losing by 1,400 votes.

~ 90th District: Tom Demmer (R) and Seth Wiggins (D)
Tom Demmers is Deputy Minority Leader in the House of Representatives. He is the incumbent for the 90th District includes parts of DeKalb, LaSalle, Lee, and Ogle Counties in north-central Illinois. Demmer has been a leading voice for ethics reform. He has worked with mayors and local business leaders to bring state funding to improve roads and business opportunities. “It is important to help small and medium-sized businesses as well as the local farmer to survive with the changing times,” said Demmers in a phone interview. “One of our biggest challenges is the Governor not allowing elected officials to meet and help solve not only the COVID-19 concerns but other state legislative actions that have been dormant in Springfield.”
Seth Wiggins (D) – Seth Wiggins and his family live in Dixon, (Lee County), Illinois. Wiggins feels that job creations will offer bigger opportunities in the area rests in the I-88 corridor. His platform is limited in scope and seems one-dimensional. Wiggins has not campaigned much in the DeKalb County area. He served four years of active duty with the United States Air Force as an airborne Arabic Linguist, deploying to Kandahar, Afghanistan, where he completed 144 combat sorties as military intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR).

~ U.S. Senate – Illinois: Dick Durbin (D), Mark Curran Jr. (R), Dr. Willie Wilson (I)
Dick Durbin (D) – Durbin has been in office since 1996 and serves as the Democratic Whip, the second-highest-ranking position among the Senate Democrats. His tenure has produced little for rural Illinois, spending most of his efforts in Chicago. Durbin granted the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division to boldly investigate police departments accused of a pattern or practice of misconduct. Durbin also challenged Congress to hold hearings on systemic racism and police misconduct. Durbin is the hallmark of why term limits should be imposed.
Mark Curran Jr. (R) – Mark Curran Jr. is an attorney and former Lake County Sherriff. When it comes to issues Black Illinois residents are the most concerned about, Curran feels that racism outside of law enforcement or discrimination relates to inadequate funding of schools and housing in minority communities. Curran also stands firm on protesting. Limited political experience.
Dr. Willie Wilson (I) – Wilson is a hard-working, highly successful international businessman, philanthropist, and self-made man. Dr. Wilson has spent over 40 years helping the poor and disenfranchised. He wants the federal government to fund more job training programs and invest in business development in the most impoverished communities. Dr. Wilson believes that attaining equity for all communities in tax spending is a budget-neutral action that can provide development equally for all residents.
