Bill’s Olive Oil – From Greece to DeKalb

Every year about this time, Bill Christakos journies to Greece to harvest a new patch of olive oil from his family olive farm.

Bill Christakos is the owner of Ellwood’s Steak and Seafood Restaurant in DeKalb. This sojourn is to pick olives and produce a new batch of Christakos famous ‘Bill’s Olive Oil’. Christakos’s goal is to provide only the freshest olive oil.

“It is always exciting to come to Greece to not only visit family but to collect the finest olives to make my olive oil,” commented Bill Christakos. “Last year’s batch of ‘Bill’s Olive Oil’ is almost sold out by the middle of this fall, so we want to make sure we have the additional product for those that enjoy our quality olive oil.”

‘Bill’s Olive Oil’ is produced, bottled, and harvested in the town of Palaiopanagia, Greece. It is available in the USA at Ellwood’s Steak and Seafood Restaurant in DeKalb, Illinois.

Olive oil is a major component of the Mediterranean diet. It is rich in antioxidants. The main fat it contains is monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs), which experts consider a healthful fat. In addition to oleic acids, olive oil contains some important polyunsaturated fats. Namely, these are an omega-3 fatty acid known as alpha-linolenic acid and an omega-6 fatty acid known as linoleic acid. Olive oil is also rich in antioxidants, such as phenols and tocopherols as well as vitamin E.
