On December 2, 2012, Governor Quinn signed into law SB 3338, which amends the Election Code and modifies the filing period for local candidates seeking office in April of 2013.
Previously, the last day to file nominating papers for local office was 5 PM, December 24, 2012. Under the change, which is effective immediately, candidates now have until 5 PM, December 26, 2012, to submit these documents to the local unit of which they are seeking office.
It is strongly encouraged that all local candidates contact the local unit, (a listing of local governments can be located by clicking here), to which they are seeking office to inquire on the new times and dates for submitting these documents during the period of December 17 through 5 PM, December 26, 2012.
As December 24, 2012 is a holiday for DeKalb County, the offices will now be closed on December 24 and 25th. Candidates that would file in the County Office can now do so December 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM; December 22, from 9 AM to Noon; and December 26, from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Candidates still needing to file Statements of Economic Interest can do so during that same time period.
