The 6th Annual Day of Caring will run from 8am-5pm this Thursday, September 16th. Day of Caring formally kicks off the United Way’s 2010/2011 community campaign efforts, providing an opportunity to help others through hands-on experience and see where United Way donations go and how agency programs are affecting people’s lives. This event promotes teamwork and gives people a taste of volunteering, while making a difference in the community. Day of Caring matches teams of volunteers from businesses, schools, faith communities, and community groups with non-profit agencies in DeKalb County who are in need of hands-on help.
“We’re very excited about Day of Caring 2010,” says Darby Dwyer, Co-Chair and United Way Board Member. “In 2004 we had 40 volunteers working on 7 projects, and last year that number had grown to over 200 helping out on over 40 projects throughout the county. Volunteers did tasks ranging from painting at Connection Comunidad, delivering Meals on Wheels, to mulching playgrounds at Growing Place and Children’s Learning Center. This year, we hope to engage even more volunteers and help more agencies.”
“We are so lucky to live in such a generous community,” says Lori Lozeau, Co-Chair and United Way Board Member. “With all the budget cuts and challenges with our economy, our ability to volunteer our time and talents to our local non profits means more now than ever.” To get further information, including volunteer or project sign up forms, contact the Kishwaukee United Way at 815.756.7522 or visit their website.
