According to legend, if a groundhog comes out of its burrow on February 2nd and fails to see its shadow it will leave its nest and that means winter will soon end. But if the groundhog sees its shadow it will supposedly scurry back into its hole and winter will last for six more weeks.
The forecast for Tuesday, Feb. 2, gives some hope for a shorter winter this year. We’re looking at cloudy skies with a high of 29F and a 40% chance of snow.
Ordinarily I’d be ecstatic but this Groundhog Day is also Election Day. Its the Primaries and voters often stay home in droves for those kind of elections. Bad weather won’t help.
But, just for fun, lets play Groundhog Day Election Forecasters. Who wins what race if the groundhog sees its shadow? If she doesn’t? Pick any race or more. What’s the turnout if she does or doesn’t see her shadow?

Mac–This usually Democratic and/or non-partisan voter will pull a Republican ballot for Adam and Doherty.
I did the same for the Democratic primary of Blago vs. the chain saw throwing guy. At least I can say do not blame me, I did not vote for Blago, twice (actually four times).

I predict a high number of usually Republican voters to pull Democratic ballots to vote for Sarah Gallagher Chami.
I suspect a lot of usually Democratic and/or non-partisan voters will pull Republican ballots to vote for Adam Andrzejewski for Governor and/or Tom Doherty for Judge.
Those predictions come from conversations and not any scientific polling or anything.
But if the crossover votes occur how will that affect the race between Republicans John Acardo and Joe Simons for DeKalb County Clerk and Recorder?
Another twist is a surge of bipartisan Clay Campbell support due to his "clean up local corruption" statements at the DeKalb Chamber candidate forum and in his campaign material.
I'm hoping Gracie's turnout predictions are wrong. If not we might be swimming in taxes.

I predict Toni Preckwinkle over Todd Stroger. His dad's shoes were obviously too large for him to fill. So much for him running on the family name instead of experience.

My prediction is 10% voter turnout, pool referendum passes and status quo on incumbents keeping their seats. Dang I'm turning into a pessimist. Hope people prove me wrong though!!

Why would he come out Mac, it's primary day. Nobody comes out anymore for primarys.
Come on people, let's tick off the minority who are taxing and spending us all the way to the poor house. Get out and get your vote to count.
Spring is around the corner. My prediction.

Many feel it important to get their vote in this primary for many reasons.
I'm hearing people are absolutely mad about this referendum and they feel a NO vote for this referendum is their way to say NO to future referendums and also let the school district the NO's mean business. I'm hoping it's all action and not just talk.
You are correct about the races and crossovers Mac. The nice thing about them crossing over is that it probably got them to get and go vote and in DeKalb the Park District referendum is on all ballots. I believe many common sensed property owners feel screwed and duped by the school district referendum and they are seeing behing the park districts plans. Many like local Jeff Hallgren will push this NO vote to high numbers. Many must realize the numbers just do not even come close to working on this and I'm told that St. Charles/Geneva area is also building an aquatic center at this time. It's just a no go.
It's amazing to me how many people are willing to vote for those who are not even remotely qualified for a position. You think we have a mess now in government keep voting in people like this for important positions and we are really in trouble.
