Historian Jim Gibbons’ Presents: “The Life of John F. Kennedy” this Tuesday, October 25 at 7 PM at the Egyptian Theatre. October 25, 1959 then Senator John F. Kennedy gave a speech at the Egyptian Theatre in front of a packed house. A recording of this very speech has been found and will be played for the first time on the anniversary of his speech 57 years ago.
He gave us hopes, dreams, and challenges. John Kennedy stated, “the torch has been passed to a new generation”; and that we must seize the movement by asking not what our country could do for us, but what we could do for our country! His was the age of youth, vigor and vitality–we were a country on the move. We could do anything and conquer all odds with visions of glory. For one brief shining moment in history we were Camelot!
Following the playing of his speech historian, Jim Gibbons, will present the life of our 35th President of the United States, John Fitzgerald Kennedy. Jim Gibbons, a Marengo, IL resident and historian, has made a name for himself teaching the importance of history. Using his passion for and strong knowledge of history, Jim offers riveting presentations on the historical events and figures.
Jim’s presentations have taken place in libraries, park districts, retirement communities, private venues, schools, and colleges in Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin. He was also featured in The Northwest Herald, Chicago Tribune newspapers and Chicago Sun-Times newspapers as well as radio broadcasts, such as The Front Porch (Marengo Community Radio WXMR 94.3 FM), RFD Radio Network, and The Dolly McCarthy Show.
Jim has been researching history and historical figures since he was in college. Using his slogan, “Life is no mystery when you know your history,” he has a passion for retelling historical stories of presidential as well as United States history, with a strong emphasis on how history continually repeats. Jim’s goal is to not only teach the important parts of history, but to point out that if history’s warnings are heeded, mankind stands to have a brighter future.
