Make sure you plan to take the kids to STEMfest this Saturday afternoon, October 19th, 2013 from 10am through 5pm. STEMfest is a free community event that packs NIU’s Convocation Center with hands-on interactive exhibits, activities, and competitions. Northern Illinois University STEM departments, student groups, regional corporations, museums, educators, and national labs join forces to present hundreds of activities that range in complexity to entertain people of all ages. You’ll see such things as the cow eye dissection, the haunted physics lab, science fiction author talks, a creepy-crawly petting zoo, navigating a laser maze and more. They hope to increase awareness of the critical role science and other STEM fields play in our world every day.
STEMfest’s purpose is to help k-12 students, their families, and the community, explore science, technology, engineering, and math. People of all ages have fun while learning more about STEM careers and innovations. The Convocation Center is located at 1525 W. Lincoln Hwy. in DeKalb, IL..
