A frigid arctic airmass has moved into our area and will remain with us through Tuesday night. As we begin the morning, temperatures will hover just above the 0 degree point with wind chills between -20 and -10 through the day. Tonight, even colder air will take grip of the area which will combine with light winds to make it feel like -30 at times.
With a Wind Chill Advisory in place tonight and into the morning hours of Tuesday, the conditions that we’ll be under can cause frostbite within 20-30 minutes to any exposed skin. Frostbite causes a loss of feeling and color to the affected area. The most frequently affected areas are the nose, ears, fingers and toes. The first signs of frostbite are redness and/or pain of the skin. Other indicators of frostbite are a discoloration to the skin, the skin feels waxy and numbness to the affected area. Everyone should take all necessary precautions as we head into tomorrow.
