At Tuesday night’s City Council Meeting, the Sycamore City Council authorized the next phase of construction at the city’s water treatment plant. New regulations from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, and the fact that the plant has already exceeded its useful life, mean that an upgrading of the site is necessary. The city will install a sequencing batch reactor, or SBR, treatment system.
Total cost is $26 million, and Sycamore will obtain a $19 million loan from the Water Pollution Control Loan Program. City Manager Brian Gregory says this expense has already been factored into the city’s budget for this year and the next two, so there will be no additional fees or expenses charged to taxpayers.
