Sycamore Park District Pool Delayed Opening

Over the winter and spring, the Sycamore Park District Pool underwent construction to make necessary ADA updates as well as other improvements to the entrance, locker rooms, pool deck and pools.

In early May, the Park District became aware of issues with grounding wire as a result of the work being done.  Due to unexpected delays in the testing company’s availability and the need to remove portions of the pool deck to properly replace the insufficient bonding wire, the pool’s opening will be delayed.

A final inspection will take place on Thursday, May 25 (the pool’s original opening day). Following a successful test of the new equipment, the pool will begin being filled. Depending on air temperatures and how quickly the pool can be heated to an appropriate bathing temperature, it is projected that it will be opened on Friday, June 2.

Dan Gibble says, “We always keep our fingers crossed that nothing delays progress on projects with a strict deadline, such as opening the pool. Unfortunately, this is one of those cases in which a chain of events has caused a break in the progress. As we wait for the final inspection to be done, we are thankful that the significant time-consuming elements of the construction work are completed so that the swimming season in Sycamore is not cut any shorter than absolutely necessary.”

The Park District has a long-range plan and dedicated funds to guide accessibility improvements. Project planning and prioritization is based on the standards set by the American’s with Disabilities Act. While this year’s pool improvements are mostly in response to necessary ADA updates, the District took the opportunity to make some other needed updates as well.

Updates include:

• New accessible entry and sidewalk
• Accessible counter at concessions
• Ramp into the guard room
• ADA lift in the baby pool and big pool
• Fresh coat of paint on all three pools and throughout the locker room.
• New bathroom partitions, toilets and counters
• New flooring in the showers
• New slide in the baby pool

Hours of Operation

*Monday-Thursday: Pool closes at 5pm on swim lesson days; reopens from 6-8pm.

• Five or fewer patrons are swimming
• The temperature is below 70 degrees
• Lightening**or severe weather occurs

**The pool will close for a ½ hour after the last lighting/thunder strike and may reopen if possible.

2017 Daily Admission Fees

Everyone passing through the admissions area is required to either pay the daily admission fee or present their season pass. Proof of residency is required to receive our resident rate.

April 1 thru May 24: Drop off or mail your completed registration form to the Park District Administration Office, 940 E State Street, and receive 10% off in April and 5% off in May.

May 25: Once the pool opens, passes are full price and may only be purchased at the pool front desk.
