There will be an organizing meeting of the citizens group, Stop the Mega-Dump, on Monday March 26th, 7pm at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of DeKalb, 158 North 4th Street.
The group will be giving citizens an update of the court process and where the situation with the expansion stands presently. The group will also be planning fund raising possibilities to cover the legal fees involved with the appeal process.
In addition to these items on the agenda will also be a discussion of the next steps. The group will be looking at their options for what follows the Appellate court decision. The citizens group will look at what alternatives there may be regardless of the decision.
“We feel it is important to use this waiting period to be proactive. The County is making plans to expand the jail regardless of the court’s decision or knowing for sure where the revenue will come from; and we feel it is also important that the citizens look at their options.” Said Dan Kenney, chair of the citizens’ group.
“Regardless of the Court’s decision we still have the issue of our solid waste to deal with. The yearly County Solid Waste report to the ILEPA will be coming out soon. Now is the time to look at how we can best meet the needs of all the citizens of the county now and into the future.”
Interested members of the community are invited to attend the meeting.
