DeKalb, IL- The eerie and enchanting season of Halloween is upon us, and the Fargo Venue, 641 E. Lincoln Highway, is thrilled to present Shape & Shadow – a spine-chilling group art exhibition that will transport you into a fascinating world of ghoulish delights. This captivating group showcase will run from October 13 to 31, with a bewitching opening reception on Friday, the 13th (of October), from 6 to 9 pm.
“We are excited to invite the public to join us at Shape & Shadow, a nightmarish-themed art show that will immerse visitors in a world of enchantment and mystery,” said local artist Katie Drum, who organized the group show. “This exhibition showcases the incredible talent of DeKalb and Midwest artists, offering an alluring experience for art enthusiasts and lovers of all things macabre.”
Featured artists include Yesenia Arroyo, Sophie Bergagna, Lee Bishop, Brad Cahill, Helen Celewicz, Katie Drum, Danni Hernandez, Donovan Holland, Rachel Joyce, Eric Kraybill, Kate Lassiter, Michael Leeson, Grace Miccolis, Laura Nienhueser, Aliya Noor, Doug Overton, Yetzey Reyes, Ivy Schneck, April Startzel, Maxine Stewart, Grant Swanberg, Diego Torres, Maeve Wallace, Jackie Weides, and Arin Whitmore. In collaboration with Drum, the exhibition was juried by local artist April Startzel and Fargo Venue owner Ariel Ries.
“I’m tickled to be able to celebrate local artists on the spookiest of days, Friday the 13th!” stated Ries.

Ries created the Fargo Venue space adjacent to the Fargo Skatepark, which officially launched in August 2021. The multi-purpose venue space is available to rent for art shows, live music, classes, events, and more, in the heart of downtown DeKalb. The Fargo Venue’s goal is to create a safe, creative space where all members of the community feel welcome and inspired.
“I am delighted to be invited to take part in the Shape and Shadow Exhibition to establish and strengthen connections within the local art community of DeKalb,” commented Startzel. “There is a deep root of creativity running through our town that deserves to be recognized. I am grateful to be involved and hope to see more local exhibitions in the future.”
The opening reception on Friday, October 13, from 6 to 9 pm, is a tantalizing invitation to enter this spectral realm in style. Attendees are encouraged to dress in their most spooktacular seasonal attire and experience an evening like no other. There will be a live painting courtesy of local artist Ryan Swain, an “Exquisite Corpse” craft activity for all ages, adjacent skate park activities, refreshments, and more. Mingle with fellow Halloween aficionados, engage with the artists, and unravel the inspiration behind their haunting pieces. This is a night that is sure to leave you spellbound!
