Illinois Travelers may need a Passport to fly here soon. Starting January 22, 2018, passengers with a driver’s license issued by a state that is still not compliant with the REAL ID Act (and has not been granted an extension- note: Illinois is one of the states not granted extension and is under review as of this date) will need to show an alternative form of acceptable identification for domestic air travel to board their flight (PASSPORT). If the traveler cannot provide an acceptable form of identification, they will not be permitted through the security checkpoint. A TSA Pre-Check will not be issued or accepted without proper ID.
Passengers with driver’s licenses issued by a state that is compliant with REAL ID (or a state that has been issued an extension) will still be able to use their driver’s licenses or identification cards. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced on December 20, 2013 a phased enforcement plan for the REAL ID Act (the Act), as passed by Congress, that will implement the Act in a measured, fair, and responsible way.
Please note that Illinois is ‘under review’, meaning if nothing is finalized by January 22, Illinois travelers will need a Passport to fly. For more information please contact FunME Events, Michael Embrey at M.Embrey@FunMEevents.com or call 815-756-1263 for updates.
