2015 is an especially important year for Safe Passage’s largest fundraiser, An Evening of Chocolate, as Safe Passage has some pressing capital needs. The area’s only domestic violence shelter is greatly in need of renovation some of which includes windows and siding (to help keep utility bills down), floors, kitchen and bathroom renovations. Safe Passage has a challenge in this effort because due to the unique nature of their organization, the building’s location is kept private, and pictures of the needed work can not be shown.
Safe Passage provides a wide range of services to victims of domestic and sexual violence in our area including crisis intervention and medical advocacy for victims of domestic and sexual violence, short- and long-term housing for victims and their children, counseling, legal advocacy, children’s services, community education, and a batterer’s intervention program.
An Evening of Chocolate will be held this coming Saturday, February 28th, 2015 from 7-10pm at the lovely Faranda’s Banquet Center, 302 Grove St. in downtown DeKalb. It will be an evening to delight the chocolate lover in all of us while supporting the mission of Safe Passage to break the cycle of violence.
