Join the Illinois Lakes Management Association‘s NIU Student Subunit group as they monitor the water quality and hike to clean up trash along the Kishwaukee River in DeKalb this coming Saturday, April 7th. All those wishing to join in are welcome and asked to meet at Montgomery Hall on the NIU campus at 9am Saturday.
The Student Subunit of the ILMA is focused on watershed management and the promotion of education to preserve our local water resources. Their goal this Saturday is to walk along the portion of the Kishwaukee North of Route 38 from the Lagoon at NIU. They will remove garbage and any large debris from the water and stream bank. Gloves and garbage bags will be provided. Attendees are reminded to dress appropriately as they will likely get wet and muddy.
The River Cleanup is part of a campus wide celebration of Earth Appreciation Month.
Montgomery Hall is located just off of Route 38 and Normal Road. The cleanup crew will meet in the parking lot facing the lagoon. Late arrivals can join the group along the way as they head around the lagoon and towards First Street and Hillcrest along the river.
