The Sycamore Park District Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing on April 13, 2016 to garner public input on schematic designs of a recreation campus to be developed across Airport Road from the existing Sports Complex. From 7 to 8:30pm, the public is welcome to stop by the Clubhouse, 940 East State Street, to view the plans for the entire site as well as for each facility and share their input.
The future campus includes a community center, dog park, splashpad and sled hill as well as a playground, parking lot and outdoor patio spaces. The development of these facilities will accomplish a large portion of the goals outlined in the District’s long-range plan, ACTION 2020. Driven by a Community-wide Strategic Planning Team and two community-wide surveys, the plan addresses the recreational needs of Sycamore residents now and as the community continues to grow and diversify.
Over the past ten months, volunteer committees for the dog park, splashpad and community center have worked hard to research the operation and design of their respective facilities. The combined efforts of these committees, the Park Board, staff and the architectural and engineering firm, Farnsworth Group, have brought the community one big step closer to accomplishing the goals of ACTION 2020. Please stop by to share the excitement, show your support and provide valuable input in the future of recreation in Sycamore.
Once these schematic plans are approved by the Park District Board of Commissioners, the project will move into the “Design Development” phase of the work. The focus then will be on getting the project out to bid for contractors. This process includes writing bid specifications, creating architectural, engineering and landscape plans and coordinating legal documents. The intent is to finish that phase early in 2017 and then put the projects out to bid in the spring of that year, with work to begin in the summer or fall.
The recreation campus is a part of ACTION 2020, the Sycamore Park District’s long-range plan to provide residents with the recreational opportunities they seek, need and deserve. In addition to a community center, splashpad, dog park and sled hill, it will also bring to the community two new biking trail connections, a soccer complex and new irrigation system at the Sycamore Park District Golf Club.
