After the 4pm press conference DeKalb City Manager Mark Biernacki wanted to talk. I’ve been griping about not getting press releases or notification of press conferences. Other than traditional sources (radio, TV, newspapers) how do you determine what is media?
I understand the big picture. Should anyone claiming to be the media be treated as such? If not where should the line be drawn?
DeKalb County Online has been online since 1997. That’ll be 15 Internet years this May. I’ve been writing about DeKalb and the county since the 1980s. I can’t speak for other online publishers or “bloggers” but I know we’ve got some good ones. I think I’m on the right side of that line. It makes perfect sense, if you want the public informed and I think that’s what press releases and conferences are for, to treat anyone who attends meetings and reports on them to the public as media.
Here’s a five minute video clip (media) of highlights to the press conference.

Fly on the wall: The agenda item for naming a replacement city clerk was pulled from the public session and moved to closed session. With the trouble they’ve had with closed session minutes I doubt we will read much on that discussion.
