On Thursday, July 21, 2016 and Friday, July 22, 2016, the Canadian National Railroad (CNRR) closed Plank Road (County Highway No. 38) at their railroad crossing about one mile west of Burlington Road in the Village of Burlington. This closure by CNRR was necessary in order to reconstruct the railway crossing resulting in an improved riding surface for Plank Road motorists.
CNRR was unable to adequately complete the necessary roadway approach pavement improvements that tie into the reconstructed railway crossing, thus Plank Road will need to remain closed through the weekend and is expected to reopen by 6:00 PM on Monday, July 25, 2016. The posted detour route will continue to use Burlington Road, Walker Road, IL Route 72, and IL Route 23 to divert traffic around the construction area (see attached map). Motorists should be prepared to reduce their speed, exercise caution, and to obey all traffic control devices.
A reminder – it is illegal for drivers to talk on a cell phone or text while driving through a highway construction work zone.
Any questions or concerns may be directed to the Kane County Division of Transportation: Jay Seyller, Permit Administrator, at (630) 584-1171.
