This Wednesday, July 25th, is NIU’s Summer Under the Stars: Eyes on the Sky from 7pm-11pm. Donna Kubik, an astrophysicist at Fermilab and an NIU alumna, will discuss how professional, research-grade telescopes can be viewed as “souped-up” versions of amateur telescopes and cameras. Kupik and the group will explore similarities using the Dark Energy Survey’s optical telescope as an example.
After the talk, participants can choose among several optic activities, from playing with periscopes to assembling Galieoscopes for star gazing. Throughout the activity, participants can also visit the observatory. The event will take place at LaTourette Hall, Room 200, on the NIU Campus and is free to attend. www.niu.edu/stem for more information.
