We are excited to announce that one year from today, Michael Embrey will be in New York City to march in the 2023 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade with over 400 Band Director members of the Salute to America’s Band Director’s Marching Band.
The Thanksgiving tradition started in 1924 and it featured a parade of floats, bands, balloons, and famous faces walking along the streets of Manhattan, performing for about three hours. The three-hour parade is held in Manhattan, ending outside Macy’s Herald Square, and takes place from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on Thanksgiving Day, and it has been televised nationally on NBC since 1953. The Parade’s workforce is made up of Macy’s employees and their friends and family, all of whom work as volunteers.

Michael Embrey had this to say, “I can’t wait to represent my community, my university (NIU), NIU Marching Band alumni, drum corps friends, and former students … and march with music educators from all over the nation!! Some of these folks are friends I made during the Rose Parade trip and I can’t wait to see them again … what an honor and thrill.”
