
Michael Kulpin
On June 5, 2016 the DeKalb Police Department conducted a wellbeing check on Moorea Desroches. Moorea’s mother contacted the DeKalb Police Department because she was concerned after learning that Moorea did not show up for work during the last couple of days and that she has not been able to make contact with her.
Officers went to Moorea’s residence located at 906 Kimberly Drive. Officers made contact with Michael Kulpin and two other individuals at Moorea’s apartment. Michael Kulpin is the boyfriend of Moorea. While checking the apartment, Moorea was found deceased in a bedroom closet at approximately 10:30PM.
The subsequent investigation indicates that Michael Kulpin and Moorea got into a verbal argument late Friday night and into the early morning hours on Saturday, June 4, 2016. The verbal argument turned physical when Michael Kulpin battered Moorea. Michael Kulpin continued to batter Moorea, and stabbed her several times. Moorea died as a result of her injuries. Kulpin then attempted to conceal her death by covering her body with items from the apartment.
The DeKalb Police Department recovered several items of evidentiary value from inside the apartment as well as a nearby dumpster.
Michael G. Kulpin, 20 years of age, from DeKalb was charged with the following offenses:
– 2 Counts of First Degree Murder: Class M Felony/Class X Felony
– Aggravated Domestic Battery: Class 3 Felony
– Concealment of a Homicidal Death: Class 3 Felony
Kulpin has been arrested and will be incarcerated at the DeKalb County Jail. Kulpin’s bond was set at $2,000,000 dollar, 10% to apply.
The other two individuals that were with Kulpin were not charged with any crimes. These individuals are not suspected to be involved in the murder of Moorea Desroches.
Moorea Desroches was 19 years old at the time of her death and was from the St. Charles area.
