On 11/21/14 DeKalb Police officers observed an apparent drug transaction in the 2300 block of Sycamore Road. Officers, with the DeKalb Police Department and the DeKalb County Sheriff’s office, conducted surveillance on an individual involved. He was identified as Henry Zamora. The surveillance led to a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Zamora. DeKalb County Sheriff’s office canine unit assisted on the stop. As a result of the traffic stop, four kilogram packages of suspect heroin were recovered in the vehicle. DeKalb Police obtained a search warrant for Zamora’s residence in the 1400 block of Cambria Drive, DeKalb. The DeKalb County Sheriff’s office assisted DeKalb Police in serving the search warrant. During the search of the residence, police recovered two additional kilogram packages of suspect heroin, a semi-automatic handgun, and a quantity of United State Currency.
A second individual involved, Harry Madrid, had been present at the residence and was determined to be involved in the drug activity.
The seized suspect heroin had a street value of approximately $1,400,000.
Henry A. Zamora, M/35, DeKalb, was charged with two counts of Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver (over 900 grams / 15 year minimum) – Class X felonies, two counts Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance – Class 1 felonies, Possession of Open Certificate of Title – Class 4 felony, Possession of Secret Compartment – Class 4 felony, and Possession of Firearm without FOID – Class A misdemeanor, along with a traffic citation for the initial violation.
The second involved suspect, Harry J. Madrid, M/24, out of Anaheim, California, was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver (over 900 grams / 15 year minimum) – Class X felony, Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance – Class 1 felony.
The Class X felony charges are punishable with a minimum of 15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Investigation is continuing.
