The DeKalb Police Department received information that methamphetamine was being sold and used at a hotel room in DeKalb. DeKalb Police, assisted by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office and Northern Illinois University Police, initiated an investigation and established surveillance at the hotel.
Officers observed a vehicle leave the hotel and park in a lot in the 800 block of W. Lincoln Highway. Officers approached the vehicle and made contact with the occupants, Andrew Brown and Cody Landwehr. A DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office canine unit was summoned to that location and the canine alerted on the vehicle. Brown was found to be in possession of cannabis, methamphetamine residue and paraphernalia, and hypodermic syringes. Landwehr was found to be in possession of approximately 60 grams of cannabis wax and a large quantity of United States Currency. Both Brown and Landwehr were arrested at the scene.
Officers continued to conduct surveillance at the hotel room and stopped four individuals as they left the room. The four individuals were identified as Gerald Cook, Daniel Clayton, Katie Macadam, and James Clucas. Officers conducted a search of Brown’s hotel and recovered over a gram of methamphetamine, approximately 504 grams of cannabis, drug paraphernalia, and numerous hypodermic syringes.
Through further investigation, Officers determined Brown and Cook were obtaining methamphetamine elsewhere and selling methamphetamine to local users. There was no indication that the subjects were manufacturing the methamphetamine. Cook was also wanted by the Illinois Department of Corrections on a warrant for parole violation and on a DeKalb County warrant. Officers determined the large quantity of cannabis found in the hotel room belonged to Landwehr and he intended to sell the cannabis. Clucas was found to be in possession of a small quantity of heroin and hypodermic syringes.
