City of DeKalb Mayor John Rey wishes to indicate that, based upon the extensive amount of public interest and feedback received by the City regarding the proposed unlawful assemblies ordinance and weapons at unlawful assemblies ordinance, he will request that the City Council table those ordinances pending an opportunity for further public feedback, and for review by the City’s Human Relations Commission.
Said Mayor Rey, “the City wishes to ensure that all citizens wishing to be heard on this important consideration have an opportunity to do so. We ultimately wish to have ordinances in place that protect and promote the public’s exercise of their Constitutional rights within a framework that preserves public safety. The exchange of ideas on this topic over the past two weeks has been beneficial for the City and the public and I wish to encourage greater public education regarding the scope of the proposed ordinances and more extensive opportunities for discussion.”
The Mayor will request that this ordinance be tabled at the start of the City Council meeting this evening and the City will provide public notice of future meetings where these ordinances may be considered by either the City Council or the Human Relations Commission.
