The Kishwaukee College Speech and Debate Team took 4th Place for Two-Year Schools in Individual Events at the Pi Kappa Delta National Speech and Debate Tournament held at the University of Kentucky from March 17-21. Chase Budziak, Director of Speech and Debate at Kishwaukee College, noted, “The team also outscored several universities including: Aurora University, Butler University, Tennessee State University, the University of Minnesota, and the University of Illinois Urbana- Champaign. We are very proud of our team.”
In addition to the overall team performance, individual team members earned accolades. Sophomore Micah Huff, Sycamore, received an Award of Excellence in Impromptu Speaking and sophomore Benjamin Webster, Sycamore, received an Award of Excellence in Extemporaneous Speaking. Both intend to transfer after the completion of their degree this spring to compete on the four-year level. Budziak added, “Sophomore Dan Engstrom and freshmen Madalyn Klein, Drew Anderson, and Ryan Lindsey also played a crucial role in earning points to secure a fourth place finish.”
The Kishwaukee College Speech and Debate Team is coached by faculty members and award winning coaches Chase Budziak, Director of Speech and Debate, and Kacy Abeln, Assistant Director of Speech and Debate. Budziak and Abeln are currently recruiting team members for the Fall 2016 semester.
