Kishwaukee College’s literary/arts magazine, The Kamelian, was named the Third Place Winner in the Central Division of the Community College Humanities Association’s 2014 Literary Magazine Competition. Amy Smith, English instructor and faculty editor of The Kamelian, said, “For many years, the Kishwaukee College Kamelian has been a vehicle for showcasing the artistic and literary talents of our students. As the Kamelian Editor, I am especially proud of our 2014 artists and writers, and honored to be recognized by the CCHA.”

The Kamelian has been published every spring semester since Kishwaukee College first opened its doors in 1968. The magazine serves as a showcase for the creativity of the student body. Original student works in the categories of short stories, poems, essays, 2D art, 3D art, and photography are submitted at the end of the Fall semester. This award marks the fourth time since the year 2000 that The Kamelian has been recognized by the CCHA.
The CCHA is a national organization specifically designed for humanities faculty and administrators in two-year colleges and its mission is to support and encourage the study of humanities. The humanities are disciplines that explore how human beings process, understand and express their experiences.
The CCHA will hold a conference for the Central Division members on November 20 – 22 in Indianapolis. Amy Smith will receive the award for The Kamelian during the conference. For more information on The Kamelian, contact Amy Smith at 815-825-2086, ext. 2080 or at amy.smith@kishwaukeecollege.edu.
