Kishwaukee College Continuing Education is offering a free information session for community residents to learn more about the Personal Fitness Trainer program. The free information session will be held on Thursday, September 8 from 6 – 7:00p.m. in Room A1217 at the College. Space is limited and pre-registration is required.
There will be two additional opportunities to learn more about the program online through World Instructor Training School (W.I.T.S.), the College’s partner in offering the program. The two additional online webinar information sessions are on Wednesday, September 7 from 11:00a.m. – noon and Wednesday, October 5 from 3 – 4:00p.m.
The Personal Fitness Trainer course begins September 24 and runs through October 29. The course is designed to prepare students to work successfully in the fitness field. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in the Personal Training field is expected to grow 7% through 2024. Personal trainers work primarily in fitness centers, gyms, hospitals, universities, yoga and Pilates studios, and clients’ homes.
Lecture topics in the Personal Fitness Trainer program include: anatomy, exercise physiology, nutrition, and health screening. In addition to lecture, the class includes fifteen hours of “hands-on” practical training which helps prepare students to work with clients one-on- one. The W.I.T.S. national exam is administered on the sixth week. Upon successful completion of the class and written exam, a list of approved internship sites will be provided by W.I.T.S. Once the student provides proof of completing the required 30-hour internship and CPR certification, they will receive a Personal Fitness Trainer Certificate from W.I.T.S. The five-week course costs $761.
