Kishwaukee College is offering several classes for the Spring 2016 semester that give students options to explore specific topics in a variety of fields. The classes are a great option for any student looking for something a bit different to round out a schedule or anyone who simply wants to engage in lifelong learning by taking a single class and seeks an engaging academic experience.
Registration for Spring 2016 is currently in progress; the semester begins January 19.
ART 200 – Life Drawing with Miles Halpern is an introduction to drawing the human figure in a variety of media and using direct observation. (Note: this class has a prerequisite of ART 100, Basic Drawing).
ART 299 – Advanced Ceramics with Michelle Erickson-Goettl focuses on working with alternative clay bodies such as Paper Clay, Porcelain, and Raku Clay and the firing processes specific to these materials.
COM 108 – Communication in the Workplace with Kacy Abeln is an introduction to the to communication strategies, behaviors, expectations and the diverse skill sets required across workplace environments and professional situations.
ENG 215 – Children’s Literature with Ann Mueller investigates the the motivations for reading and the appropriateness of materials for children of various ages and reading levels.
HIS 299 – The 1960s with Jennifer Jossendal explores the social, political, cultural, economic, and gender issues relevant to the decade of the 1960s, including the challenge to the status quo in the 1960s; the response to and legacy of that challenge; the conservative turn in recent years, and the deepening inequality in the new capitalist global order.
HUM 215 – Black Cinema with Nadine Franklin is an introductory historical overview of Black cinema and filmmakers in the 20th century including an examination of Black themes, issues and characterizations by various filmmakers within the changing socio-cultural context of the time.
On Saturday, January 16 from 9:00a.m. – 1:00p.m., Admissions, Registration and Records (ARR), Financial Aid, Business Office and Counseling and Student Development Offices will be open to assist students. All Student Services offices are located in the Student Center on the second floor. Appointments for the placement tests appointments are available at 9:00a.m. on this day to accommodate students who need to take Placement Exams. Testing Services is located in Room A1300.
