The Kishwaukee College Art Gallery will open the new season with a provocative dual exhibition titled Drone R’ US featuring the works of artists Dominic Sansone and CJ Hungerman. The show will run from August 25 – September 25 with an Artists’ Reception on Tuesday, September 9 from noon – 2:00p.m. in the Gallery. The Gallery hours for Fall 2014 are Monday through Thursday 10:00a.m. – 6:00p.m. The Kishwaukee College Art Gallery and the Artists’ Reception are both free and open to the public.
Dominic Sansone’s works are sculptures created using the traditional mediums of bronze, iron, and porcelain, as well as contemporary materials of silicone, urethane rubber, foam, and plastic. His works and their installation are designed to invite the viewer to consider the current cultural desensitization to violence as a result of non-stop media saturation.
He explained, “As a single cohesive composition, my work is intended to create a monument contradictory to the ones that dominate the landscape of our cities. In the end, these works do not answer the questions or propose solutions, but hopefully cause the viewer to consider, with more than a cursory glance, the visual culture of our cities, our entertainment, our public art, and our media.”
CJ Hungerman’s works are mixed media and composed of kinetic color interwoven with iconic images representing human emotions. Each work is a vibrant, color labyrinth that, in its complexity and seeming chaos, reveal a unique explanation to the individual viewer. Juxtaposed with the works of Sansone, the Drone R’ US exhibition is both visually arresting and thought-provoking.
