Join the University of Illinois Extension for their First Detector Workshop this Wednesday, February 4th, 2015 at the DeKalb County Farm Bureau. Illinois First Detector Workshops are designed to improve first detector training and invasive species awareness in order to enable early detection and management response for invasive pests. Once again, new topics on current and emerging invasive plants, pathogens, and insects will be covered. Participants will also be given an opportunity to take part in hands-on activities to learn about the topics in more detail. Join Extension to learn about these and other invasive pests as well as information about new safeguarding techniques and the role that regulations play. Registration fee is $40 per person, which includes instruction, training materials and lunch.

Commonly confused look-a-likes
Regulation
Course Topics to Include
Invasive Insects in your Landscape – Brown Marmorated Stink Bug, Viburnum Leaf Beetle
Viruses in Ornamental Plants
Invasive Plants and Their Management
Invasive Pest Pathways
The workshop will conclude with hands-on activities of each course topic. Also new in 2015 will be the informal inclusion of an update of prior First Detector workshop topics.
