The public is invited to an exciting meeting about the future of Shabbona Lake State Park. The meeting will be at the Resource Bank School House Meeting Room, (corner of US 30 and Indian Road), this Thursday, February 19, 2015, at 7 PM.
The Park is currently researching forming a “Friends Of Shabbona Lake” organization. It would be a tax deductible 501 C 3 organization dedicated to helping, improving and growing Shabbona Lake State Park. They are informing the public of the following information in hopes that you, your business, your club and/or your organization would be interested in joining a newly forming tax deductible charity organization called “Friends Of Shabbona Lake”.
At the 1st meeting ever of “Friends Of Shabbona Lake”, they will elect Officers and Directors, as well as review the Mission Statement, Membership Fees and By-Laws. The current Mission Statement Of Friends Of Shabbona Lake State Park: “Our purpose is to support and enhance educational and recreational opportunities contributing to the preservation, conservation, and use of the natural resources at Shabbona Lake State Park.”
In addition to being an organization that would be formed to attract individual support for Shabbona Lake State Park, “Friends” will also be an “Umbrella” organization, that would include all current activities and groups at SLSP, plus new groups and activities that may form. Each organization would retain its own autonomy, while being a member organization of the larger “Friends” group. Individuals of member organizations could also join “Friends” as an individual supporter.
The association would be a win-win for all groups, as it would increase exposure, provide for more volunteers at activities and enhance financial support. To RSVP or for more information contact Molly Haseman, Shabbona Lake State Park, at molly.haseman@illinois.gov.
