For the first time ever, Feed’em Soup Chef Alex Smith will turn the reigns of his kitchen over to another for a special one night event. He knows the kitchen will be in good hands as the guest is none other than Feed’em Soup President Randi Kennedy. “I had no idea it was a thought or option” Kennedy said when asked about becoming the special guest chef for the evening. “I love to cook so I’m honored and look forward to it.”
While Kennedy has no formal culinary training, she has assisted Smith in the kitchen at Feed’em Soup for the last year and is an avid foodie and home cook. She will be sharing one of her personal favorite dishes, Chicken Tikka Masala at the community dinner this Wednesday June 27th 2012.
The group is currently doing a culinary “Tour of the World” and has enjoyed giving guests the ability to try common foods prepared in a way they may not normally have access to. Over the past two months, Feed’em Soup has offered themed meals from Germany, Russia, Asia and now India.
Chicken Tikka Masala is a dish consisting of roasted pieces of chicken in a creamy tomato sauce with a light spice. While classified as an Indian dish, it is also hugely popular across the UK and is even rumored to be the most served dish in British restaurants. In addition, the meal will also feature other staples in Indian cuisine including basmati rice and naan bread with hummus.
Feed’em Soup hosts a community restaurant and project open to the public. There are no prices on the menu. Those that cannot pay are encouraged to pay the favor forward in some way, those that can afford to are welcome to leave a few dollars as a donation to cover the cost of their meal, and those that leave more than a few dollars cover the cost of someone else’s meal.
Meals are served on the 2nd, 4th and 5th Wednesday of each month from 5pm to 7pm. Dinners also include a food pantry, clothing closet and a program for kids titled Lexi’s Kids Corner. For more information, visit www.FeedEmSoup.org
