The Illinois workNet Center has settled into its new location at 650B North Peace Road in DeKalb and will be celebrating with an Open House on Thursday, October 30 from 4 – 6:00p.m. The Open House is free and open to the public. The evening will include two ribbon-cutting ceremonies as the workNet center serves both the DeKalb and Sycamore communities as well as several nearby smaller communities. The Sycamore Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4:00p.m. to kick off the Open House and the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon-cutting at 5:15p.m.
In addition to the ribbon-cutting ceremonies, there will be a multi-media presentation of services provided, tours of the new facilities, and First Institute Training and Management will have their mobile welding lab on site and available for tours. There will also be light refreshments. Kishwaukee College’s Career Resource Center (CRC) is housed within the Illinois workNet Center and CRC staff will be available to discuss their respective programs. Billi Tierney, Coordinator of the CRC, will be on hand to discuss Job Clubs and Job Search Workshops. Dale Cozort will be available to answer questions about the Basic Computer Literacy classes he teaches at the CRC, and Kim Green, Career Resource Specialist, will be there to provide information on the computer class that assists community members pursuing a high school equivalency certificate (GED) prepare for the new 2014 GED test. All services offered by the CRC are free to the public.
In addition to the classes and workshops, the Kishwaukee College CRC offers a wide variety of free services for area job seekers including a state of the art computer lab, internet access, labor market information, telephone, fax, copier, typing tutorials, resume and cover letter writing programs to assist clients with job search and employment needs. The Job Clubs and Job Search Workshops are offered weekly and the Basic Computer Literacy classes are offered monthly. Employment applications are also available from area employers. The CRC’s professional staff is available to assist in making use of the resources that are available, free of charge for the public.
In addition to the CRC, Illinois workNet partners with First Institute Training and Management which oversees Workforce Investment Act (WIA) funding for eligible individuals interested in college training. First Institute Training and Management also offers business services free of charge to DeKalb County employers. Services offered by First Institute include recruitment, application screening, pre-employment testing, direct referrals of qualified applicants, and On The Job Training reimbursements to employers.
