Electronic waste was banned from the landfill since 2012. Since that time, DeKalb County Health Department and its partners have hosted multiple electronics recycling events. Currently, we have monthly collection events throughout DeKalb County. This coming Saturday will be an Electronics Recycling Event in both downtown DeKalb and Genoa.
The collections are sponsored by each individual municipality and the current contractor is New Life Electronics Recycling, Inc. Due to recent changes in the electronics recycling industry statewide, New Life Electronics Recycling is no longer accepting Cathode Ray Tube Televisions (older Tube Televisions). However DeKalb County is holding a special Tube TV collection event this Saturday as well (read more here). Flat screen televisions will be accepted. Monthly events around the county are as follows:
1st Sat – DeKalb Grove and S. 4th St. 9-11 am
** No Event 7/2/16 or 9/3/16
1st Sat – Genoa City Hall East Lot 12:30-2:30 pm
** No Event 7/2/16 or 9/3/16
2nd Sat – Sandwich 750 Duvick Ave. 12:30-2:30 pm
3rd Sat – Sycamore 475 N. Cross St. 9-11 am
4th Sat (even numbered months only) Waterman – City Lot on Route 30 9-11 am
** No Event 12/26/15 & 12/24/16
DC Trash is currently the only local company that will take tube TV’s for a fee. The Illinois Product Stewardship Council is advocating for legislation to facilitate even more disposal avenues for TVs, according to Michelle Gibson, Solid Waste Specialist. Just to clarify, we are a local on-line newspaper…. we are NOT ‘The County’. But we agree… this event seems to have people VERY upset after they loaded up, drove out there and waited in line… then to be turned away so quickly..

I understand there is limitations on how much people can recycle and the cost but by not accepting every single TV that is brought to you on the day of the recycling event you are just promoting people to dump it wherever they want.
