Join the DeKalb County Sheriff and the DeKalb and Sycamore police and fire departments in celebrating the 31st annual National Night Out Against Crime. National Night Out will be celebrated locally this Tuesday, August 5th, 2014 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Target parking lot. Meet local police officers and firefighters and learn about community organizations and safety. Featured events include: – Fire Department safety smoke house – Live K-9 police dog demos – Simulated 911 call center for kids – Music, lots of games and food. Join the fun for the FREE family event.
The event is designed to heighten crime- and drug-prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in local anti-crime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
National Night Out is held annually and the police departments will be offering a child safety seat checkups. They will have certified child safety seat technicians, including police officers, on hand to answer questions, inspect seats, and assist motorists with proper safety seat installation in their vehicles. Also attending will be the DeKalb Fire Department and other local law enforcement agencies. Bring the kids out and meet fire fighters, paramedics, 911 operators, police officers, sheriff’s deputies and more! Kids can also learn about bicycle safety, how to make 911 calls, and what they should do when they see fire or smoke.
National Night Out is “America’s Night out against Crime.” Last December, the Target Corporation selected our National Night Out event for the 2013 Excellence Award. This award recognizes the top ten National Night Out events hosted by Target teams and law enforcement agencies across the country, as a result of this recognition the Police Department received a grant of $1,000.00 dollars which will be used to help support this year’s NNO event. Target is located at 2555 Sycamore Road, DeKalb.
