The Beth Fowler School of Dance in Genoa and St. Charles is inviting everyone to be part of the magic, as the school rolls out special events this fall and throughout the 2018-19 dance season in celebration of a triple anniversary.
To begin, BFSD is marking 25 years since the first Beth Fowler Dance Company took the stage, and 25 years since the Company first staged Beth Fowler’s Production of “The Nutcracker.”
But the school is also celebrating 35 years since Fowler founded the school at the age of 15.
The Beth Fowler Dance Company has presented “The Nutcracker” each holiday season for the past 25 years at DeKalb’s historic Egyptian Theatre and for the last six seasons, has brought the holiday classic to life on stage at St. Charles North High School.
While the classic has become a holiday tradition for so many in our communities, Artistic Director Beth Fowler has been deep in discussions with Northern Illinois University Professor and Scenic Designer Sahin Sahingolu and Egyptian Theatre Manager Alex Nerad, conjuring ways to make the 25th Anniversary performances more magical yet, with new special effects, props, scenery, lighting and choreography!
For Fowler, however, the true magic has always been found in the dance families who have made the Dance Company’s production of “The Nutcracker” so special throughout the past quarter century.
To celebrate dance families, present and past, opening night of Beth Fowler Dance Company’s “The Nutcracker” on Friday, Nov. 30, at 7:00 p.m. at the Egyptian Theatre will feature a special Alumni Performance, open to all Beth Fowler Dance Company alumni dancers! Fowler has been overjoyed with the tremendous response from her alumni, stretching back to dancers who performed in the inaugural performances 25 years ago. Some are still dancing with professional careers, and others are not, but Fowler assures there are roles available for all alumni.
“It will be a special treat to see the current Company dancers and the alumni dancers share the stage, together, during the alumni show,” Fowler said. “We can’t wait.”
Each Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., BFSD will offer a free alumni ballet class at the Genoa location. Rehearsals for the special Alumni production of “The Nutcracker” will be held on weekends this fall.
The official Alumni Nutcracker Placement Class will be Saturday, Sept. 29, at 1 p.m., following the free alumni ballet class. Make-up options for alumni dancers unable to attend on Sept. 29, will include placement classes on Sunday, Sept. 30, at BFSD’s St. Charles location, and Saturday evening, Oct. 6, in Genoa.
