There is a Holiday Ax-in-Hand Student Show coming up this Sunday at the House Cafe. Friends, family and music lovers are invited to come out and support the students this Sunday, December 14th, 2014 at 2:00pm at The House Cafe, 263 East Lincoln Highway, DeKalb. Food, beer and wine will be available for purchase.
Ax in Hand, DeKalb’s long-time, family-run guitar shop, has celebrated its 50th anniversary this year. Larry Truman Henrikson created the Larry Henrikson Guitar School in 1964 and later changed its name to Ax in Hand. He died in 2000, and his sons are now co-owners of the shop.
Several well-known rock bands collaborated with the shop during the 70’s, like Pablo Cruise and The Doobie Brothers, because of its vintage instruments. The family would also take instruments into the city to different concerts like The [Rolling] Stones, The Who, INXS [and] Tom Petty.
Still going strong, now, instructors teach violin, guitar, bass and ukelele lessons at the shop. They have been recently been expanding into band instruments for rent as well as offering repairs on musical instruments. Ax in Hand has a huge collection of guitars and other instruments available for sale as well as amps, speakers and musical accessories. It’s a great place to shop for the musician on your list.
