For Ashley Furniture Industries, environmental stewardship begins at home. They continually seek to recycle, reuse and replenish every day.
Our Manufacturing Operations
Solid lumber uses only 63% of a tree. At Ashley, engineered wood (100% recycled wood) is used in much of the furniture, allowing them to utilize an extra 32% of every tree and do aid in natural habitat preservation, slowing of deforestation and reduction in landfill waste. Also, all of the solvents and most of the finishes are water-based, which allows them to help diminish the use of chemical solvents. This has allowed reduction of air emissions by 86% since 1997. Hazardous waste went from 188 drums per month in 1994 to only 3 drums per month in 2007. Much of this waste is used as fuel, enhancing energy recovery and reducing use of fossil fuels.
Our Footprint is Green and Leafy
Ashley restored and enhanced wetlands totaling more than 87 acres, including farm land and an area formerly zoned “industrial,” at a cost to Ashley of more than $1.2 million, in exchange for approval to industrialize a net of 28 acres of zoned wetland. These approvals allowed Ashley to maintain and expand its Arcadia, Wisconsin manufacturing facility, to continue to provide more than 4000 jobs for Wisconsin workers, and to continue its support for more than 80 Wisconsin subcontractors who provide additional jobs. Ashley also distributes more than 25,000 trees in observance of Arbor Day, maintains more than 1000 trees and shrubs on our Arcadia Campus and has planted more than 600 trees in the community.
