Free Chocolate Awaits Genoa Visitors
Veterans of Genoa’s Chocolate Walk know to wear loose clothing this Saturday, February 5th, as they browse downtown. That way they will have plenty of room for all the goodies downtown businesses will be giving away. The event will run from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. throughout downtown Genoa.
“Chocolate Walk is a great excuse to go downtown on a winter Saturday and get in the mood for Valentine’s Day” Said Mim Evans, Genoa Main Street executive director. “Visitors should look for the chocolate “kiss” sign on the doors of participating businesses. They will be welcomed inside with a free chocolate treat. No purchase is necessary. The treats are wonderful and include everything from fudge to cupcakes, candy, chocolate fondue and chocolate drinks. You never know what you will find when you walk in.”
As a special treat this year, visitors can watch chocolate artisan Chuck Berndt make chocolate roses. He will have some of his other creations, including sculptures and pictures made of chocolate, on display. Visitors can purchase raffle tickets with the winner taking home a chocolate creation that will make a great Valentine’s gift. Chuck will be working inside Everything Floral, located at 113-B West Main Street.
“This is always one of the busiest days of the year” said Sandy Spier of Poppy Seed Primitives. “Every year I bring more chocolate and more people show up to eat it. This year I will have plenty on hand.”
Chocolate Walk is presented by Genoa Main Street, Inc. and sponsored by Waste Management. For more information, visit Genoa Main Street’s Web site.

Gracie, are they having an event like this in DeKalb? How come all the fun stuff seems to be happening in Genoa?
